On the 26th of January 2025, a prayer of forgiveness and repentance to Allah (SWT) for rainfall was performed by more than 1,000 men and women at Mare aux Vacoas Reservoir. The prayer and supplication were led by Imaam Dawoodjee Issackjee from 06:30 to 07:45, following the dawn prayer.
Swalaat-ul-Istisqaa holds special significance in Islam as it is a sunnah of our Holy Prophet (SAW) and is done during challenging times such as periods of drought and water scarcity. It can be performed individually or in congregation (Jamaat).
Hadith on Swalat-ul-Istisqaa (Prayer for Rain):
Narrated by Abdullah Ibn Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him):
“The Prophet (peace be upon him) went out to the prayer place to offer the prayer for rain (Istisqaa). When he wanted to supplicate, he faced the Qiblah and turned his cloak inside out.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 1012; Sahih Muslim, Hadith 894)
