About Us
Mauritius Islamic Mission
Ever since its inception in 1962, the Mauritius Islamic Mission (MIM) has been diligently fighting against indigence only to respond favourably to the Creator’s command to feed the orphan and the destitute. In their relentless effort to sustain the have-nots, the founder members and the most ancient adherents have left no stone unturned to attain their objective of supporting the needy despite all sorts of obstacles encountered.
MIM emanated in 1962 from the ‘Islamic Circle’ in which brothers Dahal, I.Jhumka and I.Udhin played a central role, and were helped by a team of volunteers like A.R. (Said) Buxoo and Ajum Abdul Wahed among others. They operated in the premises of the Noor-e-Islam Mosque of Camp Yoloff as of 1970.
The Imam of the Mosque then, the late Sheikh Mustapha Beeharry (may Allah receive him in His Paradise), who later became the President of MIM, will remain in the history of the Association as its central figure owing to his constant engagement in the fight against poverty and other evils threatening the most vulnerable members of the community.
We haven’t forgotten the above predecessors of ours. We will always be indebted to them because of the invaluable legacy they left us in terms of the lessons we have learnt from them which we will undoubtedly put into practice. May Allah reward them for having brilliantly performed their tasks in the social field and grant them Paradise.
From the 1990s onwards, MIM operates in its own polyvalent premises at N0 2, Vélore Street, Port-Louis, a two-storey building primarily built to house our Day Care Centre for girls with a disability. The initiative for such a Centre was that of Imam Beeharry himself. This noble task of taking care of the disabled started at the Noor-e-Islam Madrasah and the merit for it goes to Zahir Beeharry, himself a disabled person.
The actual body of administrators of MIM, comprising of A.Tokee as President, N.Allybocus as Vice- President, B.Oozeer as Secretary, Z.Phul as his assistant, Y.Dookhoo as Treasurer, A.Goodur as his assistant, and A.R.Bunkur, N.Phul and A.F.Khodabaccus as members, includes no less than six members of the young generation which means that the three elder ones are guiding the younger members to take over the noble work being done and to keep it on-going for the next generation and so on.
As regards the expenses of the revenue obtained via donations from various halal (legal) sources, strict scrutinisation is exercised on same by decisions of the Managing Committee which meets on a fortnightly basis and more frequently depending on urgency.
The donator can rest assured that his or her financial and other material contribution to MIM is utilised correctly and transparently. Besides, we are open to any request from members or donators to verify the same at our office anytime.

Objectives
DAWAH
We can not end this brief history of our Association without speaking of Dawah: our principal objective.
We started in 1962 and it is still ongoing now.
The main instruments to do Dawah were: a lending library, publication of a weekly ‘’ Le Croissant’’ for which we had set up a printing press (MIM Co), giving public talks by local as well as by foreign Daees (Professor Malik among others) and publishing Imaam Beeharry’s khutba’s every Friday and so on.
Though these activities are not as pertinent as they were in the past, especially after the demise of Imaam Beeharry, our DAWAH activity has not ceased. It continues through “Le Croissant’’, Billboard at Plaine Verte, our Madrassah, Islamic courses at our Centre and through social media.
We don't only feed the poor.
MIM does not content itself to only feed the poor but tries, by all means, to enable the latter to be self-sufficient as far as possible. MIM’s fight against poverty cannot be described here in minute detail. Suffice it to mention but a few of the activities geared towards this noble cause:
- Caring for the welfare and rehabilitation of disabled persons through basic education, medical attention, psychological assistance, physiotherapy sessions, handicraft practice under professional supervision, etc, as well as providing them with a consistent daily meal.
- Create opportunities for self-employment to the unemployed.
- Financial and material support to children of modest families.
- Medical assistance through vouchers to our beneficiaries.
- Give a helping hand to womankind in their emancipation.
- Promote Islamic and secular education
And other activities closely related to the achievement of the above objectives.
