Plot No. 65-C

Rep. of Mauritius
Dear Madam,
The Muslim Citizens Council (MCC) expresses deep concern over the rising trend of Islamophobia and anti-Muslim hatred throughout India, the supposedly greatest democracy of the world, and strongly condemns the attempt to denigrate the sanctity of the Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) and Islamic Symbols to inflame sentiments of Muslims across the world and lately the bulldozing of the property of activists, which have fomented inter-cultural divisions and tensions.
The MCC is of opinion that there may be widespread Islamophobia and deliberate attempts to smear Islam’s sacred image and undermine the peaceful coexistence with other cultures and religions, which we strongly condemn. These rash moves have posed growing threats to peace and security and rising tensions and instability in many parts of India.
International public opinion sees with concern that the Indian government is adopting the same inhuman measures against the Muslim minority as the Israel crack down on Palestinians by demolishing their homes and using brutal police force.
The MCC further denounces with force the systematic and widespread policy of discrimination and intolerance against Muslims in India, which has led to their political, economic, and social marginalization. We are deeply alarmed by the most destructive attacks on the Muslim identity in India as manifest in the discriminatory laws, e.g. Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and policies targeting the Hijab. We call upon India to immediately revoke such discriminatory laws, ensure the rights of the Indian Muslims and protect their religious freedoms.
The MCC calls upon the Indian government to take necessary and urgent measures to prevent incitement to hatred and discrimination against Muslims. Adequate measures to combat defamation of religions and acts of negative stereotyping and stigmatization of people based on religion, belief, or ethnicity should be implemented in order to restore peaceful co-existence among different ethnic groups.
Besides, the MCC urges the Indian Government to raise awareness at all levels in countering Islamophobia, building a better understanding of Islam and its precepts and fostering a message of tolerance, peaceful coexistence and inter-faith and cultural harmony among all religions, races and nations.
Kind Regards,
The President,
Mr Jamsheed Tarsoo
